Research released by the Liberal Democrats today shows
that only 6 of 17 Labour candidates for the 2006
Hastings Borough Council elections lived in the wards
in which they were seeking election.
The research was done following Labour councillor
Godfrey Daniel's attempt, in the local press, to imply
that new Lib Dem member and well-known campaigner
Margaret Williams would not be honourable in standing
as a candidate in the forthcoming borough elections.
Speaking about the findings, Nick Perry, Lib Dem
parliamentary campaigner for Hastings & Rye said,
"These results speak for themselves. It is hypocrisy
of the worst kind. Not only was Godfrey Daniel wrong
to make the assertions he made, but he has embarrassed
himself and his party by not checking that his own
house was in order before he fired off such a
misplaced letter."
